Pond Aeration is one of the keys to pond health. A healthy pond is all about nutrient and oxygen balance. The level of oxygen and how it is distributed throughout the water column is one of the key factors in determining pond and lake health.

Oxygen in a pond or lake comes from three natural sources, a spring or flow-through, diffusion from the wind and most importantly as a by-product of photosynthesis. Most man made farm pond or residential pond oxygen production is limited to wind diffusion and photosynthesis and often leads to low dissolved oxygen levels, thermal stratification and stagnation; all detrimental to long term fish and pond health. Dissolved oxygen levels fall during the night time hours when plant life is not producing oxygen. When there is snow and ice cover, or even a series of overcast days dissolved oxygen levels may fall below life sustaining levels and you will suffer a fish kill. 

Vertex bottom aeration systems provide a beneficial and cost effective method of improving both the water quality of your pond and it's overall health. 

The Vertex aeration system consists of a small shore mounted compressor (1/3-1hp), feeding a configuration of self-cleaning flexible membrane diffusers.

 

Positioned on the bottom, each diffuser station produces millions of small 500-1000 micron sized bubbles, creating a slow moving current that entrains the entire water column providing aeration through surface contact. Designed to be both energy efficient and cost effective, Vertex Aeration Systems can aerate up to an 18 Acre lake with as little as 2/3 hp! A convection current is generated bringing oxygen to the lower layers. Naturally occurring aerobic bacteria are energized by the introduction of oxygen and a natural biological cleaning process begins to reduce the muck layer and subsequent plant and algae growth. Studies have demonstrated a doubling of water clarity, muck reduction measured in inches per season and healthy dissolved oxygen levels at all water depths.

The Vertex Aeration System is easy to install. The instructions are well written and illustrated. If you run into any issues, just call 888-986-9995 and we can help with any installation question. When you receive your aeration system, it will be assembled for the most part. All the electronics, air regulation and the compressor are already installed, including the landscape pad. The hard part is placing the AirStation and making your tubing connections.
